There’s no better time for picking up a new hobby than during a pandemic. With nothing to do but staying at home, people start to get itchy feet. Some turn to pottery and other folks enjoy the dullness of baking bread. Well, others cut themselves. Not us, though. Realizing that we haven’t put out a collection of our in-house brand in a while, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work on a bunch of new t-shirts. Our homies from Urban Supplies and Deluxe Distribution supplied us with an illustration by skateboarding icon Mark Gonzales. It seemed a waste to use it for a lame-ass front/back print. As a result, inspired by Southern Californian surf and skateboarding culture the formed the background of The Gonz’s heyday in the late 1980s, we engaged in a little arts and crafts project. Setting up a DIY lab in the courtyard behind our shop, we went to work on a bunch of t-shirts: exposing them to dye, bleach, sand, saltwater, and ultimately the merciless beams of the summer sun resulted in a series of unique items that are different in patina and look. Subsequently, we printed The Gonz’ personalized logo in a column of threes to the front, a design feat reminiscent of old-school 80s surf wear. Due to the handmade nature of the product, color variations are expected and part of the unique character of each individual shirt. You can buy the new Bonkers t-shirts at our web shop and our store in Frankfurt.
