Nike SB and Soulland FRI.day Capsule Collection

These days, we often hear the word “freedom” being uttered by some completely insane right-wing activists, and we can’t help but feel that’s it’s an exclusive freedom they’re talking about. It’s always a freedom from something. Freedom from taxes, freedom from people, freedom from whatever the fuck’s not fitting in a world view so tight you couldn’t drive a 10 penny nail in with a sledgehammer. Luckily, skateboarding promotes a kind of freedom that’s inclusive, not exclusive, and this particular concept of freedom is also the trope of Nike SB x Soulland’s pretty neat capsule collection, aptly dubbed “FRI.day”.
See, the idea of FRI.day is footed on an English-Danish wordplay. “Fri” means freedom in Danish (don’t ask us for pronunciation), and Friday, as all of you hard-workin’ folks will know, is the last day guarding the path to the weekend, for many the only time to go out skateboarding. The capsule collection thus plays on that particular feeling of freedom you have when the week’s finally over and you’re out skating with your friends and everybody’s welcome to join the fun.
The collection was designed by none other than Mr. Eric Koston, whose aptness to fashion is no secret. In the design process, Soulland’s typical minimalism has been warped with performance-oriented garments, leaving little to speculate about each item’s purpose: the all-white coach jacket, irregularly printed with Soulland and Nike logos, the grey hoody with FRI.day lettering on the sleeve and the FRI.day t-shirt are revamps of simple, everyday skateboarding apparel. The navy Nike SB Zoom Eric Koston QS, as well as the grey-ish Nike SB Koston 3 have been updated with top-notch materials while retaining a sleek appearance. It’s a collection that looks as though it was high fashion, but it’s intended purpose is actually skateboarding. However, since this a free country, it’s up to you whether to shred the clothes or wear it to some fancy white dinner party. Whatever floats your boat. The collection is available at our store in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen from Friday noon (no kiddin’), August 19, 2016. TGIF, right? If some sizes left, we release those pairs later on our webstore.
