Starting 2020 with an uppercut, Nike SB releases the Nike SB Paul Rodriguez Dunk High - a shoe that pays homage to Nike SB veteran Paul Rodriguez’s influence on skateboarding. Next to reviving the Dunk Low, one of Nike SB’s earliest achievements was the original P-Rod model. In the early 2000s, Paul Rodriguez climbed up the ladder to become one of the most popular skateboarders ever; subsequently, his first pro model on Nike SB was met with quite some enthusiasm among skateboarders. The original Nike SB Paul Rodriguez model and its myriad elaborations are among of the best-selling skate shoes of all time. Now, Nike SB is honoring Paul’s life achievement with a special edition of the Dunk High that is reminiscent of one of his most sought-after pro models, the P-Rod Mexico (Paul is of Mexican-American descent). His great passion - apart from skateboarding, that is - is boxing. Taking inspiration from the combat sport, the Dunk High’s upper features ultra-soft white boxing glove leather of Mexican provenance, as well as mismatched Swooshes green and red — the colors of the Mexican flag. The Dunk High’s packed with detail: for instance, the custom insoles feature prints of Paul’s hands wrapped in boxing gloves, while the upper overlays have been enhanced with red piping to make the toe box stand out. A lace lock inspired by boxing championship belts will adorn the laces; in addition, the outer sole is kept in Mexico’s national colors. Oh, and the shoe comes with an extra set of green laces. Rounding things off is the custom tongue label that features Paul’s name in boxing style branding. This is maybe the last big P-Rod release, so make sure you’ll add the Dunk High to your collection. Initially, we had intended to create a 19th century-style battle royale to determine who gets a pair and who doesn’t. Instead, you’ll just have to show up on time.
