New Yorkers Do it Better: Alex Olson’s Dreamy Clip for VOGUE

It’s not the first time that the fashion industry flirts with skateboarding (nor will it be the last time, from the looks of it), but Alex Olson’s short clip for fashion mag VOGUE is certainly among the flirtiest. Skating through a sunbathed, summery NYC with his crew, Olson captures the immanent spontaneity of street skating. Spliced with footage of NY’s lightly dressed, beautiful people, the clip makes visible the connection of skateboarding to the rest of the urban community.

Look, everybody has an opinion on Olson and on what is commonly referred to as “selling out skateboarding,” but we’ll give credit where credit is due: this video makes us not only want to skate, but also buy a plane ticket to New York and play hacky sack at Tompkins Square Park. We have to hand it to him: Olson can even make hacky sackin’ look cool. Damn.
