In 1998, Mark Gonzales starred in an art performance that showcased skateboarding’s roots in surfing. The show was held in Mönchengladbach, Germany, of all fucking cities, and caused a significant buzz among skateboarders and arty folks. Two of the key elements in Mark’s performance were both the fencing suit and fencing shoes he wore as he skated through the gallery. To commemorate the show’s 20th birthday in 2018, Adidas Skateboarding released the white Aloha Super that corresponded to the Gonz’s white outfit in 1998. Now, at the release party for the white Aloha Super in NYC, the Gonz re-staged his performance, this time in a darkly colored suit. So today, the company releases the very same shoe in the second suit’s dark hue. The Aloha Super’s premium suede and full-grain leather upper makes for an exceptionally durable skate shoe, while the grippy outsole and the Adiprene sock liner provide unparalleled comfort and board control. After all, footwork and stance are incredibly important in both skateboarding and fencing, so there’s that. You can buy Adidas Skateboarding’s Aloha Super by Mark Gonzales at our web shop and our store in Frankfurt from February 22nd.
