Nike SB Dunk Low Pro (Pink Pig)

Nike SB Dunk Low Pro (Pink Pig)

At the end of Ford v Ferrari, after Ken Miles and his GT40 made Italian Lorenzo Baldini look small at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the film proudly proclaims that Ford managed to go on a winning streak in the following three years. While the fine people at Ford are probably still popping corks in commemoration, the American automaker's achievement may raise only faint smiles at Porsche. The carmaker from Zuffenhausen won the world's most prestigious race a staggering total of nineteen times, making it the record holder - well ahead of Audi and Ferrari. One of the cars Porsche developed for Le Mans was the 917/20. The race car made a name for itself not only because of its striking shape, but also because of its unusual pink paint job, to which Porsche designer Anatole Lapine added a drawn-on cut diagram for pork. A series of appropriate monikers quickly became established, including “Pink Pig” and “Truffle Hunter.” Today, exactly 50 years later, Nike SB pays tribute to the 917/20 with the Dunk Low “Pink Pig.” The pair of shoes comes with a pink-dyed suede upper and red contrast stitching representing dash lines of a cut diagram. It also comes with an extra pair of blood-red laces. By the way, here’s a little shout-out to probably the biggest Porsche head in North America: former Nike designer Steve Pelletier, responsible for some of the best Nike SB releases (including the Ben & Jerry´s Dunk), is a Porsche enthusiast, drives Porsche, takes photos of his Porsche, lives Porsche. Steve, we miss you! Besides, the Nike SB Dunk Low “Pink Pig” is not the only Porsche-themed Dunk to be released this year. The Dunk Low “Gulf” is scheduled for release somewhen next month — check this blog regularly to stay up to date.
