Some brands hire artists to contribute to their designs, others just take matters into their own hands. While there’s nothing wrong with the former – in recent years, great results were achieved because of artist collaborations – there’s a unique directness to designing graphics when the owner of a company is simultaneously an artist. That’s the case with Swedish skate brand Poetic Collective, whose founder indeed studied art. Now, we can’t really say we’re art critics, but given the massive influence “high art” is enacting upon skateboarding (and vice versa), we’re confident that we’re able to identify what’s good and what’s not so good. What we like about PC is their unique approach to creating graphics: more often than not, and as is the case with this particular collection, PC designs are colorful yet delicate, as if they were only transient apparitions that could disappear in the blink of an eye – if they weren’t printed on a t-shirt, that is. In a way, it’s an appropriate visual expression of skateboarding itself: skateboarding, at its core, is a fleeting thing, both in the sense of tricks happening very quickly and in the sense of an activity that is most enjoyable when you’re young. Naturally, this collection’s message is “Art is Action,” and we couldn’t agree more. You can buy Poetic Collective’s new collection both at our web shop and at our store in Frankfurt.
