Polar Skate Co. X Iggy Capsule Collection

Polar Skate Co. X Iggy Capsule Collection

Hot take: the second coming of the 90s is kinda over. Slowly but steadily, the decade’s aesthetics are returning behind the veil of history. What’s going to take over? If we are to believe Iggy’s and Polar Skate Co.’s recent collaboration, it’s gonna be 80s punk. Now, Karl Marx famously said that history repeats itself - the first as tragedy, then as farce. It’s true, really. Remember those shopping mall punks back in the early noughties? They were representatives of the first repetition of a decade defined by anti-establishment ideology and individual autonomy, the remnants of which still shuffle down the strip malls in every large city, collecting change from disinterested passers-by. They didn’t compare in either style or substance to the original punks from the 80s, though, as punk rock’s heyday was owed largely to legendary bands like Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, and The Clash. Following the noughties’ tragedy is the farce: 80s punk, solely reduced to its aesthetic properties, can be wonderfully worn without subscribing to anti-authoritarianism. It’s a fun way to dress yourself, that’s it. But then again, who the fuck cares? Marx is dead, so he sure doesn’t. And we don’t either. So check out Iggy’s and Polar’s collab, which consists of heavily printed pants and boy short-sleeved shirts. You can buy the Polar Skate Co. X Iggy capsule collection from Friday August 9th. at our web shop and at our store in Frankfurt.
