Amsterdam-based Pop Trading Company’s most recent capsule collection features one of the most prominent Dutch painters to ever die in devastating poverty: Vincent Van Gogh. A juggernaut of post-impressionism, Van Gogh is popular for two things: drinking absinthe by the gallon and cutting off his own fucking earlobe. Now, our younger reader may picture absinthe as 19th-century purple drank, except is was green-ish, and also it gave you unsettling hallucinations. Ears, we imagine, are still a thing with today’s youth. At any rate, Van Gogh suffered from severe mental problems, but that’s not the only reason (obviously) why we remember him today. Besides cutting off earlobes and downing shots of bourgeois sizzurp, turns out old Vincent was pretty darn good at painting, too. His most famous works include first-semester art student favorite Café Terrace at Night and Portrait of Dr. Gachet. Other important works of Van Gogh’s are Self Portrait and Sunflowers, both of which are featured in Pop Trading Company’s capsule collection: the former’s placed front and center on a gray hoodie, the latter’s all-over printed onto a silk Hawaiian shirt. A black longsleeve features a painting of Van Gogh’s late work, Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette. Finishing things off is a t-shirt featuring some of Van Gogh’s sketches. Time and again, Van Gogh’s paintings achieve record-breaking results at auctions, so Pop’s capsule collection’s one of the best ways to show off your love for fine art without having to sell your organs to the Dutch mob. On a side note, all items in this drop were made in Portugal. You can buy Pop Trading Company’s Van Gogh collection at our web shop and our store in Frankfurt.
