This year saw a couple of Nike SB Air Jordan 1 releases – ushered in by skateboarder Eric Koston – and it looks like the sportswear company will end 2019’s Jordan revival with a bang. One of the most elaborate special editions this year, the most recent Air Jordan 1 Low was designed by none other than Lance Mountain, a true skateboarding dinosaur and longtime Nike SB rider. Lance’s most influential video appearance dates back to The Bones Brigade’s 1987 The Search for Animal Chin, a video with a legacy as grand as Nyjah’s ego. Most notably, Animal Chin has a plot – in fact, it’s the first skate video to ever feature one – which we won’t spoil for you. Seriously, if you haven’t seen the video, pop over to YouTube and watch it. It’s a bit old-timey, yeah, and it sure ain’t 4k. But it’s a piece of skate history and you gotta know your shit. Anyway, Lance Mountain, in Animal Chin’s San Francisco section, skates the aforementioned Air Jordan 1 Lows, and he wears tan chino pants doing so. Being an iconic video, it’s only fitting that Lance took inspiration from this outfit to design his signature Jordans. First off, the model’s colorway is split in two: the right shoe comes in the UNC royal blue and white colorway, the left one in black and navy. At first, you can only tell them apart by the cushioned lining: this is because the shoes are both covered in a tan canvas that mimics Lance’s pants we talked about earlier. Subsequently, it’s up to you what you’ll do with the canvas: you can tear it off – or even fucking burn it off, although Martin from Bonkers won’t assume any liability in case you’re accidentally setting you house on fire – revealing the different colorways underneath. Or you simply skate it off, which makes equal sense seeing as this is a skate shoe and not a fucking BBQ firestarter. In turn, this customization aspect results in no two pairs of Jordans looking the same – once you’ve skated them (or set them on fire), they are essentially personalized. By the way, Lance’s Jordan Lows have the same toe box as the High versions. At this point, it goes without saying that the Nike SB Air Jordan 1 Low by Lance Mountain will sell out quicker than Tony Hawk, so y’all better be fast copping these motherfuckers when they release on December 6th. The release for these shoes will be at our store in Frankfurt only, no online release this time.
