The Nike SB x Arts & Rec Air Trainer 1 is a limited edition masterpiece that brings together skate legacy and San Diego’s vibrant scene. Running 120 miles south of LA, Arts‑Rec has curated this collab to celebrate its local roots and skate culture since 2018.
Sneaker Heritage:
Originally designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1987, the Air Trainer 1 was Nike’s first cross-training shoe, built to perform across multiple sports environments—running, tennis, weightlifting and court games—all with one multifunctional silhouette. Worn by icons like Bo Jackson and John McEnroe, it revolutionized athletic footwear.
Design & Materials:
This vintage SB version features a mixed suede, nubuck, and leather upper, covered in safari-inspired animal print debossing and hairy suede materials, with color-coordinated laces and Arts‑Rec branded adjustable toe straps for a bold aesthetic. A Pink Quartz fuzzy Swoosh and thematic sockliner artwork nod to local wildlife inspiration.
Performance & Comfort:
Built for skating, it includes a glued rubber cup sole, padded ankle area, and rugged multifunctional crossover design that stays true to the original trainer roots. The iconic mid-foot strap returns, now featuring “arts” and “rec” lettering in place of Nike logos.
Product Highlights:
- Limited edition collaboration with Arts‑Rec
- Mixed suede, nubuck & leather upper with safari print
