What is the Independent Truck Company?

The Independent Truck Company produces skateboarding trucks. It is one of the oldest companies to do so: founded in 1978 by Richard Novak, Jay Shiurman, Fausto Vitello (who also created Thrasher Magazine), and Eric Swenson. Independent trucks was created because the founders were dissatisfied with the quality of then-available skateboarding trucks; the first product, named Stage 1, launched in Newark, California, on 23 May 1978. Independent skateboarding trucks are made of aircraft grade T6 aluminium alloy and are some of the best (i.e. most durable) pieces of skateboarding equipment money can buy. By the way: from early on, Independent trucks were referred to as “Indies”.

What are the right Independent Trucks for me?

In recent years, the infamous Cross Logo has met considerable scrutiny. Designed by graphic designer Jim Phillips, the Cross Logo is a slightly altered Iron Cross with rounded edges. Back in the day, the Independent founders were initially uncomfortable with using Phillip’s logo, even sending him back to the drawing board. Philipps, determined that his logo design was the right one, went searching for a proper justification — and found a Time magazine cover depicting the Pope wearing the Iron Cross. That settled the argument. However, in 2021, the Independent Cross Logo was permanently changed; the company now uses the Cross Logo only occasionally.
